Description

Over the past decade, measurements of the cosmic-ray flux and mass composition have improved dramatically, from direct detection in space to giant air-shower arrays. This raises a simple question: do the data from many experiments, using very different techniques, add up to one consistent picture? We address it with a global fit of the spectrum and composition, from GeV energies to the highest energies observed. I will discuss what this exercise teaches us: where the data now agree, where tensions remain, and which questions the current measurements cannot yet answer. I will also show how the result feeds into predictions of atmospheric muon and neutrino fluxes.
