Description
High-energy cosmic rays blocked by the Sun produce a solar shadow whose shape is distorted by the coronal magnetic field. With new observatories now making short-timescale measurements increasingly possible, we investigate how the shadow evolves with the changing solar magnetic environment. Using TeV cosmic ray simulations and 3D coronal field models, we explore how different coronal field configuration throughout a Carrington rotation shape the shadow, finding strong sensitivity to the low corona. We will discuss what controls these local shadow features and their potential for providing a new probe of the coronal magnetic field.
