Description

The Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov technique has proved to be an extraordinarily successful approach to gamma-ray astronomy from the ground, covering the energy range from tens of GeV to 100 TeV with exceptional background discrimination, instantaneous sensitivity, and angular and energy resolution. The field is extremely active, with observations that address a wide range of topics; from the mechanisms of relativistic particle acceleration in diverse astrophysical environments to questions of fundamental physical importance. I will briefly describe the current status of instrumentation and highlight a few recent results, concluding with a summary of prospects for the future.
