Description

Compact binary mergers detected by gravitational wave detectors are some of the most promising multi-messenger sources. The binary neutron star merger GW170817 led to the first multi-messenger source when both gravitational waves and an electromagnetic counterpart were observed. The observation of a neutrino counterpart to a gravitational wave event would not only confirm these as cosmic-ray accelerators but if done in real-time could improve the localization for narrow field-of-view instruments. IceCube has searched for neutrino counterparts from the first four observing runs of the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Gravitational Wave detectors. This talk will discuss previous IceCube analysis, including operations and results of IceCube’s analysis of the O4 observing run data, as well as plans for operations during the upcoming Intermediate Run 1.
