Visiting Phuket

We are delighted to welcome esteemed researchers from around the world to the SCARR AAA 2025 Workshop, taking place in Phuket, Thailand, this September. Known for its pristine beaches, lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and world-class hospitality, Phuket promises an unforgettable experience for both first-time and returning visitors. Phuket, Thailand’s largest island, is located in the Andaman Sea in Southern Thailand. It is bordered by Phang-Nga to the north and Phang-Nga and Krabi to the east. The island is rich in cultural diversity, with a strong Chinese influence evident in its many shrines, restaurants, and the annual Chinese Vegetarian Festival. Beyond the Chinese community, Phuket is home to a diverse mix of cultures, each contributing unique traditions and festivals.

Explore and Experience

While attending the workshop, take time to immerse yourself in Phuket’s stunning attractions:

Vegans and vegetarians will find numerous dedicated restaurants and cafés offering creative plant-based menus, alongside plentiful vegan-friendly Thai dishes widely available across Phuket.

  • Cultural Experiences: Visit landmarks such as the Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, or attend spectacular evening shows like Siam Niramit or Phuket Fantasea.

Essential Tips

  • Climate: September is part of the rainy season, but showers are usually brief, offering pleasantly cooler temperatures. Pack light rainwear and comfortable clothing.
  • Currency: Thai Baht (THB) is used locally. Exchange services are widely available.
  • Language: English is widely spoken in tourist areas, but learning basic Thai greetings and polite expressions will enrich your experience.
