DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Spencer Axani (The University of Delaware)\, Marcos
Santander (University of Alabama)\, Frank Schroeder (University of Delawar
e / Karlsruhe Institute of Technology)\, Xinhua Bai (South Dakota School o
f Mines and Technology)\, Serap Tilav (University of Delaware)\, Matthias
Plum (South Dakota School of Mines and Technology)\n\nWorkshop on Machine
Learning for Analysis of High-Energy Cosmic Particles\, 27-31 January 2025
\, University of Delaware\n\nScope of the Workshop:\n\nMachine Learning fo
r the study of cosmic particles is a raising topic\, which meanwhile has r
eached all detection techniques for all types of primary particles\, be it
a higher precision for the reconstruction of cosmic-ray air showers or ne
utrino induced particle showers\, lowering the threshold or radio arrays\,
or improving the gamma-hadron separation. This workshop aims at bringing
those together who actively work on machine learning in the context of hig
h energy astroparticle physics.\n\nOn purpose\, we plan for a small worksh
op which allows for longer talks\, plenty of question time\, and extended
discussions over coffee and lunch break. All machine-learning methods are
welcome\, be it boosted decision trees\, or any type of neural networks. W
e also invite contribution on failed approaches or work in progress\, to l
earn from each other’s experience. In addition to contributed talks\, we
plan for invited highlight talks on recent successful applications in our
field as well as machine-learning science and prevailing hardware and sof
tware techniques.\n\nTo attend the workshop\, you need to register below f
or either remote or in-person participation. Additionally\, you can submit
an abstract for a talk here on this Indico website.\n\nRegistration is cl
osed: separate website\n\nAbstract submission is closed (deadline was 30 N
ov 2024): on this Indico website\n\nAbstract submission requires an indico
account. When you create a new indico account please add a comment that i
t is for this workshop. You need to do that well in advance. Do it already
now if you plan to submit an abstract.\n\nProgram:\n\nMonday (Jan 27): \n
 \nEvening Reception\, 5-8pm in Courtyard by Marriott Hotel\n\npreceeded by
an in-person mini workshop on Scientific Writing at 1pm in Gore Hall 103
(separate registration required\; see PDF on JZ mini workshop at the botto
m of the page)\n\nTuesday - Thurday (Jan 28-30):\n\nMain workshop program
in Clayton Hall (next to hotel)\; starts with breakfast at 8:30am\n\nFrida
y (Jan 31):\n\nSmall breakout workshops on specific topics\, such as IceCu
be in Sharp Lab (Main Campus\, 20 min walk from hotel\, or use UD bus shut
tle).\n\n \n\nTalks:\n\nWe will have a number of invited and contributed
talks. To allow for plenty of time for discussion\, talks should be planne
d including 10 minutes of questions\, so 35+10 or 20+10. Please include in
your presentations not simply the results\, but also explain how you have
achieved them\, where have been problems\, and what open questions are. W
e also have a short talks for students of 15-20 min duration (including 5
min for questions). As this is a hybrid workshop\, we allow for virtual an
d on-site talks. Virtual talks need to be delivered live on Zoom with vide
o on\, as we plan to have a separate screen showing the speaker.\n\nProcee
dings:\n\nWe plan to make abstracts and materials (e.g.\, PDF of any slide
s shown) available via this indico during the conference and afterwards up
load them on Zenodo free of charge to make them available open access and
to provide a citable DOI. By submitting your abstract\, you agree to the Z
enodo terms. If you do not want to share all of the materials shown\, just
upload a reduced version of the PDF instead containing only the publishab
le material. There will be no written proceedings in a classical sense.\n\
